Rounders

Well done to all our underage players who last weekend put in an admirable performance against Clonbroney, whose training over the past 3 years showed in the final result, with Bonnie McCormack doing a great job as pitcher and Beibhinn McGowan fielding well on 1st and 2nd, Lauren Nally doing great at catcher duties, Siobhain Molloy directing play from short stop, with brother and sister duo Nallys, Eoin and Alannah helping out, Sophie Lyne getting outs on 3rd Base, sisters Katie and Sarah Tyrell playing well outfield, as did Anna and Aoife Dunleavy, Andrew Crum getting in some good batting, with Cian Murphy and cousin Lily Ward both doing well in their 1st game.

Sunday 6th saw Bunbrosna Rounders travelling to Fenagh, Co. Carlow for two fixtures, the first against the home team of Fenagh, with Kevin Mc Gowan winning the toss, Bunbrosna batted first, Fenagh were quick off the mark and rapidly got the 3 required outs to end our first innings, as we took to the field, the first out field catch of the day was by1st inning, Eoin Clarke, who quickly fed the sliotar to Eoin Cawley and onto Damien McCormack as catcher for 2nd out. Kevin McGowan caught the next out field ball for the 3rd out and quickly threw it on to Orla Foy to 3rd to stop extra run, Fenagh at this point having clocked up 12 runs. Bunbrosna worked hard to reduce the lead and both Eoin Cawley and Laura Molloy got two runs each to make a total of 9 for our 2nd inning, as we fielded again, it was Orla Foy who was quick to tag 3rd base for the first out of the 2nd inning, fast throwing to catcher resulted in the 2nd out, with 3rd out following quickly. Bunbrosna were unlucky in the 3rd, with a number of out field catches by Fenagh and clocking up 5 runs, as we fielded in the 3rd, it was Patricia Tyrell who got the 1st out, with 2nd and 3rd outs following quickly, holding Fenagh to just 2 runs, the 4th innings saw Bunbrosnas Laura Molloy get the only run as Fenagh placed themselves well on the field and caught out 3 players in succession, Bunbrosna adapted and while Fenaghs John Hickey was put out for throwing the bat, it was Eoin Cawley who caught 2nd out as it spun up off the bat and Eoin Clarke caught 3rd as pitcher. Great fielding all round by the team, with a final score of Fenagh 25 : 16 Bunbrosna.

Later in the day, we took on Na Pairsaigh, and we used our earlier experience and with Eoin Clarke winning the toss we fielded first, with Damien McCormack making the first out field catch, followed by the 2nd out by Patricia Tyrell, and 3rd out field catch by pitcher Eoin Clarke, holding Na Pairsaigh to 8 runs, luck was not on our side as we begun batting with 3 outs in quick succession and the first run for Bunbrosna by Brian Crum. The 2nd inning saw the batter out by way of foul ground, with the 2nd out by Orla to Patricia on 3rd, and the 3rd out an excellent out field catch by Damien McCormack, holding Na Pairsaigh to 6 runs, we batted strongly with Eoin Clarke making 2 of the 8 runs. The 3nd inning, saw quick play by Eoin Clarke to Marion Lyne, with the 2nd out by Roisin Foy on 2nd, 3rd out by Patricia Tyrell from quick throwing by Brian Crum, holding the opposition to 6 runs again, Na Pairsaigh meant business and quickly got 3 outs. The 4th inning started with an out field catch by pitcher Peter Maguire, immediately followed by the 2nd out, and out field catch by Damien Mc Cormack and the 3rd out by Brian Crum as catcher. We worked hard in this innings to get runs, but Na Pairsaigh were under the high balls and we took our chances to get 4 runs on the sheet. Going into the 5th innings, we knew that we would have to hold Na Pairsaigh to as few runs as possible, and it was Brian Crum who got the 1st and 2nd outs helped by great pitching by Peter Maguire, the final out for Bunbrosna was by Damien Mc Cormack, who excelled outfield. Na Pairsaigh were not letting up and we were unlucky with double out by Amanda, getting just 2 runs, final score 24:15 win to Na Pairsaigh. Well done all, great fielding and batting. Players of the day Eoin Clarke and Damien McCormack. Final fixture Sat evening in Bunbrosna. Time to be confirmed.
